Relatively speaking

Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this walked the earth in flesh and blood.
Albert Einstein

A 119 years after this photo was taken,  I sit here writing this.  The pair are great-grandparents of mine from my mothers side of the familiy on their wedding day.  How different this photo is of nowaday weddings, but how amazing to see just how our family looked in the day.  From dress to the demeanor,  many questions come to play on my part.  With each expression showing something separate from the other, I wonder what they thought that day of their future.  They went on to have 7 children, one of them my grandfather whom I've never met.  I have received recently many of these photos of past generations with only their names.  How nice it would have been to have journals written by them to read.  Will our wedding photo be just as foreign to my great-grandchildren as this is to me, or will my many journals and writings put some questions to rest?

Its just so wonderful to have this picture though isn't it? I wish I had more pictures of the older generations of my family. I guess they didn't take too many pictures in those days though did they.

I've recently come in to possession of a few pictures of my Great Grandparents and Great, Great Grandparents (Mom's side). I found them fascinating. Photos eventually decompose but, now we have electronic media that may prove much more permanent. Maybe we will be the subjects of books and albums in the year 3004. All made from the cameras and CDs we have today. Regards, Bill.

I love to look at old photographs.  What a wonderful gift you are leaving your great grandchildren.  There's nothing like the gift of words.

Knowing who we are and where we came from goes a long way to helping us feel like we belong to something larger than ourselves -- we belong in the history of mankind.   I love your journal.  I'm also love old photograph's of my family.  It's an addiction almost bigger than blogging.

I can surely relate to this picture you have in your beautiful journal.
I am 49 years old and have my grandparents picture of their wedding.
They looked so stern and so refined in their photos.  But yet to have known my grandmother she was filled with love a Polish Accent and a lot of prayer.
I never got to meet my grandfather since he died a couple of years before I was born.  But the picture does reflect both of them as a BOND.  They also went on to have 7 children one of whom is my father who is now 73 today.  We have lost a few to the Lord along the years but I will always have pictures and memories for the rest of my life and then for my daughter who is 19.  She will see who her great parents were and what they represented for us.
Again your journel is beautiful, I am not able to do all you did but I have so many of the same feelings towards life that you have since life is too short.
God Bless, Lorraine  SmokeysLorraine@aol.com
