Apple pies

Farming looks mighty easy when your plow is a pencil, and you're a thousand miles from the corn field.

Dwight D. Eisenhower, September 11, 1956

Here's Kelly learning the art of making an apple pie.  She took on this task last Friday afternoon.  At first, she was happily peeling the apples without a problem.  When it was time to make the shell, she was frustrated, funny, but determined to make it work.  I couldn't help but laugh as the girl who has to have everything just right, piece the pie shell together to get rid of the holes!  She went on to say that it didn't matter because one day she will have someone doing all the baking and cooking (and cleaning) for her.  (I used to say that!)  But, she did a great job and the two pies were consumed by the crew here in 2 days!

I bet the apple pies were very good! MMMM! Your daughter is so pretty!
When I was newly married I tried to make an apple pie. Everything was fine until it came to making the pie crust. I never could get it right! I ended up getting mad and throwing it at the back door.  I stood there looking at the dough hanging off the back door and I couldn't help but laugh at myself. I still have not perfected making a good pie crust. : )

I NEVER could get a pie to turn out right either. And on a campfire, they always turn out to be "cobbler". A good dutch oven makes a big difference tho...
Good luck Kelly!

Let me first say this is a very beautiful young lady and by looking at the picture of the lady below I can see where she gets her nice smile. Also I'm very happy and overwelmed when a mother passes her talents on to her daughter such as the skill of baking apple pies, which is one of my favorite with a touch of ice cream. But again it brings warmth to my aging heart to know that there are parents still in American that take the leasons we teach our children first most of all. So in closing keep those feelings between a daughter and mother close and never stop teaching the theme of family.
